myths and facts on the slave trade in bristol

on the 18 – 19th August I was sent to the middle of no where to talk about slavery and this is my 1st blog about it

Ok When I first heard about this I thought that this is going to be fun but now I feel that why did I put myself thought this I know how I react when talking about slavery and I put thought this why.

I have had a mix of emotions this morning from feeling unsure if I should really be here to shocked at Bristol involvement in the Slave trade to anger when I felt that there is not enough being celebrated about who we are and where we have come from.

I feel that it is my duty to try and make a difference to the community that i live in I cant just sit around and complain the only way that I can complain is if I am out their trying to make a difference.

I am right to be expressing my views in the way that I have or should I just keep shum about the whole thing

J was talking about the programme roots, I remember when I watched that I was on a war path I hated white people but now you know what they what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger and my fore parents went through hard times that I can do what I want to do in life,

What J was saying in true with London that their are opportunities there for black people

Bristol Harbourside festival is a bit like festival of the sea which seems like Bristol is celebrating their involvement in the slave trade which is not right there should be something like a festival that celebrate the history of Black people what we did before we were slave right through to what we are doing now

This book is just a stepping stone to bigger things

Shawn shows me a scrapbook and with black people of our history and I felt ashamed as I did not know anyone in his scrapbook now why is that is it my fault or is it my parents fault

so what can I as a young person do about it I will tell you what we need to do is get a forum of young black people from all different walks of life and come together were we can express our views.

That could maybe be my next step after the book I don’t know I cannot do this on my own but I know that if I have the right support behind me we can make a difference

I am looking forward to making this book as I will be able to share my views about what I think should be done and what can be done and talking to people who are involved in some way or another.

But anyway this project is going to be interesting as I don’t know what to expect will it pay of or will it flop only time will tell.

Other things that I want to know after the slave trade we had segregation but what happened in Bristol during this time was segregation still going on or was it done in 1906, why was no one told about their history that is why so many of us young people are so confused. How can we moved on if we don’t know about our past.

Black panthers in Bristol, who were they, what did they do what were their involvement, Nelson Mandela, who is he,what did he do, why was he is prison these are things that I want to research.

has the fact that young black people are involved in gun and knife crime have something to do with the slave trade if not what happened in the pass that has made young people react they way they do.
